Important Change to HeritageQuest Access:

HeritageQuest is now available through NC LIVE. Instead of accessing it through our web page using your library card, you will access it from the NC LIVE web page with the NCLIVE password. To get this password you need a Wayne County Public Library card. Simply call the Reference Desk at 919-735-1824 ext. 4 with your library card number and ask for the NCLIVE password. Then go to the following website: www.nclive.org or click on the link at the bottom of the page. Choose ‘ Wayne County Public ' when it asks you to select your institution and input the password when prompted. If you live in a different North Carolina county and have a public library card, you may have access to HeritageQuest through NC LIVE from your local public library. Call your local public library to find out about access to NC LIVE.

HeritageQuest is an Internet database that contains a wealth of genealogical information. It has census images for the entire United States for the years 1790-1930. Census indexes are available for the years 1790-1820, 1860, 1870, 1890-1910 and part of 1920 and 1930.

HeritageQuest Online also has a collection of almost 25,000 genealogical books. The bulk of the collection is family and local histories but there are also materials such as military rosters, vital record transcripts and directories. You can browse the books page by page or perform a keyword search. The book collection is every word searchable!

The third component to HertigaeQuest Online is PERSI. PERSI is an index of over 1.6 million genealogy and local history articles.

Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files have just been added to HeritageQuest Online!

More resources will be added to the database over time. In the future look for obituaries, Freedman's Bank Records and more.

HeritageQuest Online is available at all of the Wayne County Public Library branches and available to WCPL library cardholders at home if you have Internet access and the NC LIVE password. Click on the link below for access or ask a Reference Staff member if you need more information.

For those of you outside the Wayne County area, unfortunately we cannot provide access to HeritageQuest for you, due to the contract with the company who owns the database. Many libraries across the country have a subscription to HeritageQuest. Check with your local and state libraries to see if you can access it through them. If you live in North Carolina and have a public library card, you have access to HeritageQuest through NC LIVE. Call your local public library to find out about access to NC LIVE.
