Author Bob Rogers presents a one-act play about the fateful trial of Lieutenant Henry O. Flipper. Lt. Flipper later became the first black graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and went on to serve in the 10th Cavalry Regiment, one of four all-black “buffalo soldier” regiments in the Army. He was the first black officer to command regular troops in the U.S. Army. In 1881, Lt. Flipper was tried for embezzlement and later dismissed from the military. This play will highlight Flipper’s trial and whether or not he was treated fairly during and after the trial. This is a free program. No registration is necessary to attend. For more information, contact the local history room at 919-735-1824, ext. 5117.
