WEIL AND BROS. – Department Store.
Wholesale and Retail. -
Goldsboro possesses many
handsome stores in all lines of trade, but none can compare in the most
attractive and desirable features as well as magnitude with the great house of
H. Weil & Bros. This enterprise has
been successfully stablished [sic] for the past fifty years and the business
has steadily grown and increased in volume with each recurring year from the
beginning down to the present time. The
members of the firm are Messrs. Henry
Weil, Solomon Weil, Joe Rosenthal, Leslie Weil and Lionel Weil, - all prominent
men of affairs of Goldsboro, who are progressive
and public spirited and deeply interested in the prosperity of Goldsboro.
The influence of this house has been greatly felt in the upbuilding of
the city and its history is closely interwoven with the development of this
section. The aim of the management of
this house has always been to please and satisfy each customer, and to conduct
business on the sure and and [sic} lsting principles of justice. This concern is a gigantic enterprise of many
departments, each department being a complete store itself, many clerks being
employed, all intelligent, well paid and happy, and who are ever courteous and
polite to patrons. The employees have
special instuctions [sic] from the management not to pursade [sic] or induce
customers to buy what they do not want, and this one feature alone stamps the
establishment as trustworthy, dependable and reliable. The wholesale business covers this and adjoining
states.
THE
BORDEN MANUFACTURING COMPANY – Manufacturers of Cotton Yarns. – Among the
note-worthy of the industrial enterprises located in Goldsboro which have developed into prominence
and representative positions in the business life of the community is that of
the Borden Manufacturing Company, operating a large annual volume of business
as Manufacturers of Cotton Yarns. This
company operates two immense mills adjoining each other and admirably located
in the suburbs of Goldsboro. These plants are of modern equipment
throughout, and many skilled operatives find constant employment here. The positive and permanent success that has
attended the enterprise from the outset amply attests the general excellence of
the products manufactured to say nothing of the energy and ability displayed in
the management of the business. The
officers of the corporation are Messrs. F. K. Borden, President, P. L. Borden,
Secretary and Treasurer, and K. J. Davis, Vice-President and General
Manager. These gentlemen have at heart
the best interest of their employees and provide attractive cottages with ideal
surroundings including school and church facilities, etc.

DANIEL’S
GROCERY, FRUIT AND PRODUCE. – It may in truth be said that no house in the
City enjoys a better reputation than the old established, reliable and
trustworthy house of Daniel’s, the business having been established upwards of
thirty years ago by Mr. Jas. D. Daniel, and who is the active manager of the
business and a very hard worker, endeavoring at all times to please and satisfy
the trade. The store is well stocked,
