            UTILITY MANUFACTURING  COMPANY. – The fine success of this company is sufficient evidence of the fact that Goldsboro offers unusual opportunities as an advantageous manufacturing and distributing center.  This company has been established since 1908, and the business has steadily grown from the beginning down to the present time.  More than 100 people are constantly employed in the plant which is modern in its equipments throughout.  This company is large manufacturers of Three-Ply Veneer Packing Cases and Panels.  These products are shipped throughout all sections east of the Mississippi River.  The officers of the company are Messrs. J. L. Borden, President, and M. L. Lee, Secretary and Treasurer.

 

            ROYALL & BORDEN. – Manufacturers and Jobbers of Furniture and Matresses [sic]. – This business has been established since 1885, and the members of the firm are Messrs. G. C. Royall and J. L. Borden, prominent men of affairs.  Their big retail house is located in the heart of Goldsboro and is one of the leading commercial attractions of the City.  It is stocked with elegant lines of handsome and beautiful furniture of every grade. The store is under the general management of Mr. J. D. Harden.  Messrs. Royall and Borden have many other extensive business and financial interests in the city.  Their Mattress Factory is one of the most successful in the South and here is manufactured the celebrated “ROYAL” FELT MATTRESS, equal to any on the market and in great demand throughout all parts of the United States.

 

            RACKLEY PIANO COMPANY. – The name of Rackley is prominently identified in this city with the high class trade, in the handling of Pianos, Organs, sheet music and in fact everything in music.  The business has been established for a number of years.  Mr. S. R. Rackley is the Proprietor.  He is thoroughly versed in every detail of the music industry and has built up an enviable reputation of being strictly reliable in all his dealings.  He handles high grade Grand and Upright Pianos of the most reliable manufacture and carries an immense stock in his magnificent show rooms, located at 113 West Center St. South.  He also has ware rooms and repairing department at 152 East Center Street.  Mr. Rackley caters to the best trade and his instruments are found in the most prominent homes throughout the city and county.  His establishment is one of the most attractive and inviting in the city and greatly adds to the metropolitan characteristics of Goldsboro. 

 

            W. ELLIS.  This gentleman is well established in business and has built up a good trade.  He has many regular patrons and operates a good store located at 110 and 112 East Center Street North.  Mr. Ellis handles all kinds of dry goods, clothing, notions, shoes, hats, caps, ladies’ and gents’ furnishing goods, ladies’ ready-to-wear goods, etc.  Mr. Ellis is very careful in the purchase of his stock, deals in fashionable and stylish goods only and sells at reasonable prices.

 

            A. T. GRIFFIN MANUFACTURING COMPANY. – This is one of the large and important manufacturing concerns of Goldsboro, doing an extensive business as manufacturers of rough and dressed North Carolina pine, sash, doors, blinds and shingles, mantels, mouldings, turned work and all kinds of novelties in wood work.  The products of this company are unsurpassed as regards quality and general excellence.  The plant is modern in its equipment throughout and has every convenience including railroad siding.  Extensive car lot shipments are made to all parts of the country.  This is a very substantial and strictly reliable firm and has the following well known gentlemen for its officers.  Messrs. Jno. L. Borden, President, and A. T. Griffin, Secretary, Treasurer and Manager.
