GOLDSBORO
is a thoroughly modern and progressive city, full of the spirit that marks the new South, and occupies a
prominent place in the Commercial World.
Less than a generation ago, Goldsboro
was merely a wide place in the road – a village of but few inhabitants – but
her progress has been steady and sure; and during the past couple of years, the
rapid and substantial growth of the city has been marvelous, and has attracted
the attention of people all over the country; real estate is active and
business is Good everywhere throughout the business and residence sections
handsome buildings of modern construction are going up the most important of
which are the “Grant” and “Borden” office buildings, the Wayne County Court
House, ranking among the handsomest in the South, illustrations of which appear
herewith. Some of the manufacturing
enterprises are building new plants and enlarging their facilities in general,
while the wholesalers and retailers are as a unit making improvements and new
residential parks are being developed. A
careful review of the notices of the industries, banks, merchants and other
enterprises, appearing in this edition, will give the reader some idea of the
great volume of business transacted at this point, while the actual
illustrations of the streets and buildings, most of which were furnished by Mr.
A. O. Clement, give one a far better conception of the grandeur and wonderfully
beautiful setting of the city, than pages upon pages of wordpainting.
The
location of Goldsboro is ideal: it
is a charming spot in the heart of one of the most favored regions of all the
beautiful domains of the Globe, while it has an all-the-year climate of
unparalleled excellence, conducive to the perfection of health and there is a
sweetness and tone about the entire community that makes the enjoyment of life perfect,
while the city lies within the circle of the country’s most prolific area of
production in the various food crops.
Goldsboro is known as the City of Charms, Generosity,
Geniality, Contentment, Peace, Joy, Happiness; primarily Goldsboro is an industrial and Railroad center – the gate city of
Eastern North Carolina, being on the Atlantic Coast Line, north and south, and
the terminus of the North Carolina division of the great Southern Railway, and
of the Norfolk and Southern, directly to the sea at Morehead City, on the
Atlantic ocean, and to Deep Water at Norfolk, Va.
Being
connected with all of the markets of the country by these four great trunk
lines of railways, the manufacturing industries that are and can be
successfully established here, secure every advantage as regards economical
operating expenses.
