JOHN
SLAUGHTER & CO., Incorporated. – Manufacturers Agents, Roofing Plumbing and
House Heating. The
city of Goldsboro
has many old established and reliable concerns.
One of these is that named above.
The business of which has been established for upwards of forty years,
and incorporated two years ago with Messrs. John Slaughter, President and his
son, R. L. Slaughter, Secretary. they are located at 212 and 214 Walnut Street East. The very large flourishing business that is
transacted necessitates the services of from twenty-five to thirty employees,
most of whom are highly skilled in the various departments of the work. This concern does all kinds of house heating,
galvanized cornice and blow pipe work, electric wiring and fixtures, fans
motors, lamps, etc. All kinds of
repairing is also done. Estimates cheerfully furnished.
SPENCE
AND VINSON. – This is a well known and popular firm, extensive dealers in
heavy and fancy groceries, feed stuffs, and provisions, hay, grain, leading
brands of flour, fresh country produce, poultry, peas and peanuts. The members of this firm are Messrs. P. H. Spence and L. Vinson. Mr. Spence
established the business about six years ago while Mr. Vinson became a member
in 1913. Mr. Vinson was formerly
traveling salesman for a number of years and both gentlemen are widely and
favorably known throughout Goldsboro
and vicinity. They have a solidly
established business which is steadily growing.

BUSY
BEE CAFE. – Gust, Maroules and Co., Proprietors. This place is located at 112 East Walnut Street,
with phone 133. The proprietors have
been established in the city for several years and conduct a first class and
up-to-date Cafe, one of the best and most popular restaurants in the City. Especial attention is given to ladies. The service is prompt and polite. Everything is strictly fresh and the prices
are the most reasonable in Goldsboro. The bill of fare consists of everything in
season. You are invited to make this
Cafe your headquarters when in the city of Goldsboro.

A. JOSEPH. – Tailoring, Clothing, Hats, Furnishings. - Located in the heart of Goldsboro, in the Kennon Hotel block is a
commercial enterprise which for many years has been regarded as not the only
one of the busiest establishments of its kind in the city, but as the leader in
both fashions and values. This store has
an attractive front, claiming instant attention with its handsomely dressed
display windows, and a general air of commercial prosperity pervades the entire
store. Mr. A. A. Joseph deserves credit
for giving Goldsboro
such a perfect and elegant establishment of the kind which meets with every
requirement of the best dressers. He has
been established for nineteen years, and heads the list of leaders in the
trade. His force of employees includes
Mr. N. W. Williams, who has been associated with this store for sixteen years,
and Mr. Jonas Levinson late of New
York City and with and experience of ten years. Every one connected with this store is clever
and accommodating and extends every courtesy to patrons.
DEWEY
BROTHERS., Incorporated. – Founders
and Machinists, Dealsers [sic] in Machinery, and Machinery supplies of all
kinds. This concern has been in
successful existence for the past thirty-five years and has always been a
substantial support of the Manufacturing and Commercial Interests of
Goldsboro. It is one of the largest
concerns in the State devoted to this special branch of industry, and so great
is the business that upwards of fifty people are constantly employed in the
various departments. They have a modern
plant and are at the present time greatly enlarging their facilities by the
erection of additional plants South of the City, in the suburbs. The business is incorporated and the Board of
Directors is composed of the following prominent gentlemen: Messrs. Chas.
Dewey, Geo. W. Dewey, George S. Dewey, Thomas A. Dewey and Ernest M. Dewey.
GOLDSBORO
UNDERTAKING COMPANY. – Funeral Directors and Embalmers. - Carl E. Stanley, proprietor. Both Phones, residence 24 and office 49. No record of the great commercial, business
and professional establishments of Goldsboro
would be complete without notice being taken of this institution known as the
Goldsboro Undertaking Company, established for upwards of 17 years. The Proprietor, Mr. Carl E. Stanley is
favorably known and highly popular with the general public. He stands high in business, social and professional
circles, and in the conduct of his affairs has adopted the most modern ideas,
including ambulance service, with lady attendant furnished when desired. He is a practical embalmer of long experience
and is also Coroner of Wayne County.
WAYNE BOTTLING WORKS. - This is a prosperous and well known
enterprise. The business having been
established for upwards of two years.
The location of this plant is on North John Street, and it has office
telephone connection 216. Mr. John G.
Arment is the proprietor of the business.
He is a young man and a gentleman of very high standing in business and
social circles and very popular with the trade.
He has a large and growing business and manufactures all kinds of fine
carbonated beverages. His plant is
perfectly clean and sanitary throughout and his products are unsurpassed as
regard to high quality and purity. They
are in great demand throughout the city and county.
E. L. DEWEY. – Tin and Slate
Roofing. - Mr.
Dewey is well established in this line of business, and enjoys a reputation
second to none in trade, as to his absolute reliability. Mr. Dewey has built up a large business and
his work may be seen in all parts of the city.
It may be said that no contract is too small to receive his careful
consideration. Estimates are cheerfully
furnished and satisfaction fully guaranteed.
Mr. Dewey employs reliable workmen and uses the best material, besides
all kinds of tin and slate roofing work, he does roof painting. His shop is located next to the City Hall and
has phone no. 300.
