            PARKER & FALKENER FURNITURE CO. -  The officers of this corporation are Messrs. W. K. Parker, President; A. W. Falkener, Secretary and F. P. Parker, Treasurer.  They are located on North John Street, in the I. O. O. F. building, and operate one of the most solidly established and prosperous furniture houses of Goldsboro.  They do a very extensive business as wholesale and retail dealers in furniture, crockery, housefurnishings and organs.  They sell either for cash or on the installment plan, offering unusual inducements to the trade and making a specialty of the complete outfitting of homes from kitchen to parlor.  They handle magnificent lines of fine and stylish furniture of the best grades, and carry such a large stock that very choice selections may be made.

 

            MRS. L. B. BASS. – Dealer in Heavy and Fancy Groceries.  300 North John Street..  This store has been established so long that in reality it is to-day counted as one of the old commercial landmarks of Goldsboro.  Mr. Bass, the husband of this lady established this business thirty-five years ago, and since his death two years ago, Mrs. L. B. Bass has continued the business and kept up the old time reputation of the enterprise for high class goods, reasonable prices and courtesy to patrons.  Mrs. Bass is one of the most popular business women of Goldsboro.  In the conduct of this business it may be said that Mr. D. L. Hobson is the active buyer and Manager and is thoroughly posted as regards prices and has been connected with the store for the past five years.

 

            ACME REPAIR WORKS. – This enterprise is located on West Chestnut Street, and the proprietor of the business is Mr. John R. Parker.   Mr. Parker has been running this shop since February 1914, but he has had experience in the business of some twelve years and thoroughly understands every department of the trade.  He gives employment to reliable workmen and turns out the best quality of work including carriages and buggies rebuilt, all kinds of repairing and  horse-shoeing a specialty.  His prices are reasonable and satisfaction guaranteed.

 

            Z. M. L. JEFFREYS. – Commission Merchant, Shipper of Fruits, Berries, and Vegetables and Farm and Garden Seed.  Cow Peas a specialty.     No. 106 East Chestnut Street.  Among the varied and extensive business interests of Goldsboro, none is more worthy of special mention then the wholesale house of Mr. Z. M. L. Jeffreys.  Absolute reliability is perhaps the strongest point of Mr. Jeffreys, and he has been in the business for the past thirty years and enjoys a reputation second to none in the trade.  Mr. Jeffreys does a vast volume of business annually and makes extensive shipments by the car loads to leading markets of the North.  He also has a large wholesale local trade in the handling of tropical fruits and early vegetables, berries, etc., in season.

 

            H. A. POWELL GROCERY CO., Incorporated. -  This is one of the best known and best established enterprises of its character in the City of Goldsboro.  They make a specialty of high class fancy groceries and cater to the leading family trade.  The occupy location at the corner of West Center and Chestnut Streets, and carry a magnificent stock of staple and fancy groceries of all kinds.  Teas and coffees, canned and bottled goods, table delicacies, fruits of all kinds, and fresh country produce.  Absolute cleanliness prevails throughout, while purity and quality are watch words which are features strictly adhered to.  Mr. I. B. Fonvielle who is President and Manager in this business has been engaged in the trade since 1875, while Secretary and Treasurer has been associated with the house since 1886.

 

            GOLDSBORO BRICK WORKS. – H. L. Grant & Son, Proprietors, Manufacturers of high grade brick.  The manufacturing of brick is carried on to a very large extent in the Suburbs of Goldsboro, which posess rich deposits, excellent brick clay.  One of the most extensive plants here is the old established business of H. L. Grant and Son operating under the title Goldsboro Brick Works.  This is notably a very successful enterprise and Messrs. Grant and Son are men of long experience in the business.  They are among the oldest established in the brick making industry in Goldsboro, give employment to a large force of men and do a very large annual volume of business.  Their plant is thoroughly modern in every element of its equipment, and the products that are turned out are unsurpassed as regards quality and general excellence.

 

PEARSE REPAIR SHOP AND ART STORE. – O. J. Pearse, Manager, Repairing, Upholstering, Refinishing and Picture Framing. -  This high clas and exclusive enterprise of its kind in Goldsboro occupies that attractive location on South John Street, near Walnut.  Mr. O. J. Pearse, the Manager of this business is a gentleman of thorough experience in every branch of the trade and has for many years been identified with the industry.  Mr. Pearse keeps fully abreast of the times with the advancement of the trade and does beautiful and artistic work which is unsurpassed as regards its quality.  He carries a complete stock at all times and the business is steadily on the increase.  The Art Department is stocked with a superior line of art goods, and special attention is given to repairing.  Mr. Pearse tries hard to please and satisfy the trade and is liberal in his dealings and thoroughly conscientious.
