M.
E. ROBINSON & BROTHER. – Druggists. - Goldsboro
has won a good name for possessing a number of fine representative pharmacies,
and among the oldest established is that of M. E. Robinson & Bro. which has for many years been very prominent
and conspicuous in the high class business of the city. The business has been established since 1885
and the members of the firm are Dr. M. E. Robinson and his brother, Mr. T. R
Robinson, the latter gentleman is a practical Pharmacist of some twenty years
experience and is personally in charge of the business while Dr. M. E. Robinson
is one of the prominent practicing Physicians of Goldsboro. This store is finely appointed and handsomely
stocked with everything in the line of drugs and medicines, sick room
requisites, sundries, etc. Prescriptions
are filled with the utmost care, and absolute accuracy is the watch word..
PALACE
MARKET. – This market enjoys the fine reputation of being one of the most
complete and sanitary in the City of Goldsboro,
and the Business is being very successfully conducted by Mr. J. H.
Hettleman. He has been proprietor for
the past three years and has a thorough knowledge of every detail of the meat
industry. His patronage from the best
trade of the city. Mr. Hettleman kills
the finest and fattest of beeves and therefore the quality of his meats are
unsurpassed. He handles the choicest of
meats, pork, beef, veal, lamb, sausage and poultry. This market is located at 114 E. Walnut Street and has phone 154.
E.
M. MOORE – Grocer, Phone 454-J. This gentleman is a dealer in groceries,
tobacco and cigars, confections off all kinds, candies, cold drinks, canned
goods, cheese and crackers, and everything else usually handled in first class
stores of this kind. This store is located
at 739 North John Street. Mr. Moore is a young man, born in Wilmington, but was reared in the City of Goldsboro.
He has been established in business for five years, and in the conduct
of same is ably assisted by his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Moore are very courteous and
polite and strive to please patrons.
WAYNE AGRICULTURAL WORKS. This is a thoroughly representative and
reliable concern and has been a prominent feature of the Manufacturing
interests of Goldsboro
for more than a quarter of a century.
The officers of this company are Messrs. C. Dewey, President; H. Weil,
Vice President; J. M. Powell, Secretary and Treasurer. They are very large manufacturers of Turn
Plows, Cotton Plows, Guano Distributors, Plow Castings, Cotton King
Cultivators, Stalk Cutters, Cotton Planters, Grate Bars, Fire Dogs, etc. This business of the plant has steadily grown
and many skilled workmen are constantly employed. Extensive shipments are made to all leading
business points from Richmond, Virginia
to Jacksonville, Florida.
The plant is thoroughly modern in its every feature and the products
turned out have a reputation second to none, and are in wide demand throughout
the South.
H.
R. McCLENNY – Dealer in Groceries. – Among
the numerous dealers in groceries through out of the city is Mr. H. R.
McClenny, who has been established in business for the past seven years. He occupies location at the corner of George
and Holly Streets, and carries an immense stock consisting of all kinds of
staple and and [sic] fancy groceries, teas and coffees, canned and bottled
goods, country produce a specialty, and all kinds of bottled cold drinks. Mr. McClenny has phone number 316-L and fills
orders promptly. He is polite and
accommodating and operates a strictly first class store.

F. HUGGINS - Grocer. – Mr. Huggins is a dealer in heavy and fancy groceries
of all kinds, teas and coffees, canned and bottled goods, country produce,
tobacco and cigars, confections and everything in the bottled drink line, such as
coca-cola, pepsi-cola, chero-cola, ginger ale, soda water, etc. Mr. Huggins is located at 602 North James Street and has phone
268-L. He has been established in Goldsboro since 15th of November, 1913, and
previous to this time was located in the city of Kinston for nine years and in business for
five years. He has a good store and carries a large stock.
GOLDSBORO
BOOK STORE. – J. W. Winslow, Proprietor.
Wholesale and Retail Stationer. Office supplies, school books, sporting goods, pictures,
novelties and art goods, wall paper and manufacturer of picture frames. Some of Goldsboro’s
Business establishments are splendid examples of enterprise, and none is more
representative of the times than the great store of Mr. J. W. Winslow, located
in the very heart of the business district of the city. This is one of the most
complete and magnificent enterprises of its kind in the state. Mr. Winslow has been in business in the City
for upwards of thirty years and has conducted this enterprise for the past
fourteen years, and has catered to the trade and public favor in a most
satisfactory manner. Mr. Winslow was
born in Randolph County
and has made Goldsboro
his home for thirty-five years.
CYCLONE BARGAIN STORE. – Mr.
W. M. Smith is the Proprietor of
this old established and prominent house.
It has been one of the leading and conspicuous business houses of Goldsboro for the past sixteen years and the
store is headquarters for genuine bargains and it can be truthfully said that
at no store in the city can be found better goods or better prices. The line includes dry-goods, clothing, shoes,
hats, notions, ladies and gents furnishings.
The store is located at 129
East Walnut Street. Mr. W. M. Smith is also proprietor of a large
and popular grocery store located on North
John Street.
which [sic] is under very able management, dealing in all kinds of
groceries and fresh country produce.
JOSEPH & BROTHER. – This firm has been established for sixteen
years and has a reputation of being thoroughly reliable in all its transactions
and enjoys a good reputation for giving satisfaction to its patrons. They carry a very large stock of goods and do
both a wholesale and retail business, as dealers in clothing, Gents’
furnishings, hats, caps, shoes, trunks, valises and all knids [sic] of ladies
and childrens [sic] goods, dry goods and dress notions, etc. This is a large store and is located at 121 East Walnut Street.
