            GOLDSBORO LOAN CO., Incorporated. MONEY BROKERS. -  This is a solid and substantial enterprise, and is indeed a very necessary financial institution, meeting the needs of a certain class of trade which can in no other way find accommodation.  This company has a large financial backing with plenty of capital, and is incorporated with the following financiers as its officers.  Messrs.  N. J. Edwards, President, Dave J. Edwards, Vice-President, and Sol. Isaacs, Secretary and Treasurer.  They are located in the very heart of the city on East Walnut Street, near center Street, and have been opened for business since Nov. 1913.  The trade is rapidly expanding.  They deal largely in diamonds, jewelry, watches, musical instruments, sporting goods, suit cases, fire arms, also practical watchmaking, diamond setting, and jewelry repairing.

 

            JOHN JOSEPH.. – This store is known as Men’s Headquarters for Correct Clothing and Gents furnishings goods of all kinds.  The store is located at 117 East Walnut Street, and the business has been established for the past twelve years.  The stock consists of the very finest and most fashionable of high grade clothing and Gents’ furnishings.  Mr. Joseph is very careful in the buying of his stock and handles the best brands only.  Mr. John Joseph is a young man and very popular with the trade and he is therefore classed among the leaders engaged in this business in Goldsboro.

 

            GEORGE FARFOUR. – This merchant has a good reputation for square dealing.  Mr. Geo. Farfour is the proprietor and has been established for upwards of fifteen years.  He has built up a tremendous trade as wholesale and retail dealer in clothing, dry goods, notions, men’s and ladies’ shoes, millinery, coat suits and underwear.  A specialty is made of fine dress goods.  You are invited to come and examine the stock and get prices before buying.  Polite clerks are employed who are courteous to patrons.

 

            NEW YORK LUNCH ROOM. – This place is very conveniently located for the traveling public as it is just across the street from the Union Passenger Station.  It has just recently been started by Mr. M. K. Minad and Mr. Tom Angelos, who are experienced in the restaurant business and know how to please and satisfy patrons.  They have a soda fountain and serve all the popular drinks of the season.  A full line of cigars and tobacco is carried.  Their bill of fare contains everything in season, and prices are the very lowest, service the best, and the place is patronized by both ladies and gentlemen.

 

            W. H. GRIFFIN.  – Among the substantial enterprises of this city is the business operated by Mr. W. H. Griffin.  This gentleman has been established in business for  the past twenty-six years and enjoys a large patronage.  He is wholesale and retail dealer in coal, wood, shingles and laths, and carries a very large stock.  He has the best facilities for handling the business and gives prompt attention in the filling of all orders.  Mr. Griffin is deeply interested in the progress and welfare of Goldsboro and does all he can for the good of the community.

 

            W. L. SUMMERLIN – Dealer in Groceries, Fruits, Vegetables and Country Produce. – This business is located on East Walnut Street next to the National Bank.  Has phone connection number 25 and Postoffice box 515.  This is a very successful business, has been established for the past 19 years and the affairs of the concern are ably administered by Mr. Summerlin.  He is a pleasant and affable gentleman, popular among all classes and richly merits the good success that he has achieved.  He carries a very complete stock of high class goods, sells at reasonable prices and has a well established trade.

 

            W. C. SHERARD – Grocer, Phone 374-J.  This gentleman is a dealer in general merchandise, dry goods, shoes and notions, high class staple and fancy groceries, and fresh country produce a specialty.  Mr. Sherard has been established in business for five years, and has occupied his present location at 500 North John Street since December, 1913.  Mr. Sherard is a native of this county and quite well and favorably known.  He carries a good stock and sells at reasonable prices.  Every courtesy is extended to patrons.

 

            MISS PEARL CREECH, Incorporated. – Dealer in Fashionable Millinery. – This exceptionally attractive store is located at 112 West Walnut Street, and has been firmly established for the past two years.  Miss Pearl Creech who is the General Manager of the business was formerly located on Center Street.  She is known and admired by many hundreds of the most fashionable and best gowned ladies of Goldsboro and vicinity, and her suggestions are eargerly [sic] sought by many.  This store is kept up to the most modern methods, and how well the management has succeded [sic] is attested by the many delighted patrons – who know what is the latest.  At this store the very latest things of the season can always be found.

 

WAYNE HARDWOOD COMPANY. – Wholesale Manufacturers of North Carolina Pine and Hardwood Lumber.  Wide quartered Oak a specialty.  Goldsboro is one of the leading lumber manufacturing centers of the State and one of the well known enterprises identified with the industry is Wayne Hardwood Company.  This is an incorporated concern with Messrs. W. J. Lunsford, President and General Manager, Dr. R. J. Teague, Vice President and H. C. Satterfield, Secretary and Treasurer.  They operate a large and modern plant and give employment to upwards of 300 men in the operation of the business.  Extensive shipments are made to all parts of the country.

 

RUFUS HAM – Dealer in all Kinds of Groceries, Produce, Poultry, Eggs, Cured Meats, Teas and Coffees, Canned Goods, Tobacco and Cigars, Cigarettes. – Has everything usually found in a strictly first class store.  Mr. Ham has been established in business for many years, and he is therefore one of the well known and popular merchants in Goldsboro.  He has been at the present location, 701 North John Street, for the past twenty years and has built up a fine trade.  His residence is 705 North John Street.  In the conduct of this business it may be said that his chief clerk is Mr. J. J. Sasser who is clever and accommodating and extends every courtesy to the trade.  There is general satisfaction in dealing at his store.
